Tee tree oil has many curative powers and can be use to cure a lot of ailments. The reason comes from the fact that tea tree oil is a powerful antiseptic, germicide, antibacterial, and fungicide. Then go and wash your hair out thoroughly to get rid of the oily mix. There won't be any of those unwanted pest left in your hair alive.

Some other conditions that can be treated with tea tree include scabies, impetigo, dandruff, warts, Cuts, Abrasions, and a lot more. But as great as this wonder oil is, there are small groups that may have allergic reactions from the use of the pure oil on your skin. If you should be one of the unfortunate few to have a reaction, this reaction usually manifest as a rash. So when trying it for the first time it is best to use with moderation to make sure you don't have a reaction.

Aging skin is something we all either have or will have. Its a fact of life. The skin starts to lose its elasticity, sun damage takes a toll, wrinkles and lines develop. Cuts and scratches don't heal as fast and scar easily. The skin is dry and can even become brittle. It literally thins out.

This is because we have not cared for it. I heard on the radio today that 90% of Americans know more about their car engine and take better care of their car then themself. We take our cars for oil changes every 3-4,000 miles, rotate tires, buy better gas and use gas additives, high tech waxes, etc... Then we eat junk, fatty foods, don't drink enough water, don't eat regular balanced meals, forget our vitamins, etc... It's no wonder that Our skin ages amongst other things. We have the careless attitude that if it isn't broke don't fix it. We procrastinate with our bodies until they start to fail.

What we don't realize is that our skin is an organ just like our heart, lungs, etc... the skin takes in oxygen, vitamin D, protects against bacteria, accidents, etc... In the old days people were tarred and feathered as punishment. This tarring sealed the skin and if the affected individual didn't have the tar removed in a few hours they would die - why? Because their skin couldn't breathe and they overheated and died. So the skin helps us regulate our body temperature like a radiator.

Well, just like a radiator, we must care for our skin to get optimum protection and use from it. We must hydrate ourselves properly. Thats not just having a little water here and there. 90% of all Americans are improperly hydrated. An easy way to tell is to pinch and pull the skin between the thumb and forefinger. Blackhead & Whitehead Basic Information
Acne is the most common skin disease treated by physicians. It is a chronic condition that affects over 85% of adolescents and young adults. One study showed that two thirds of teenagers with acne wanted to talk to their physician about their acne, but only one third actually did.

Types of Acne
Not all acne is the same. Simplistically, acne can be divided into red bumps and blackheads/whiteheads. This division is important because each type is treated differently. Blackheads and whiteheads, known as comedones, can be more numerous on the face and shoulders than red bumps filled with pus. Good consistent skin hygiene can help improve this condition. Therefore, knowing more about what causes comedones and how to treat them is a step towards clearer skin.

Why Does Acne Occur?
All acne is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, which is made up of a hair follicle, sebaceous gland, and a hair.

These units are found everywhere on the body except the palms, soles, top of the feet, and the lower lip. The number of pilosebaceous units is greatest on the face, upper neck, and chest. Sebaceous glands produce a substance called sebum, which is responsible for keeping the skin and hair moisturized. During adolescence sebum production increases under the influence of hormones. After about age 20, sebum production begins to decrease.

The oily substance produced by the sebaceous gland combines with cells being sloughed off within the hair follicle and “fills up” the hair follicle. When the follicle is “full”, the sebum spreads over the skin surface giving the skin an oily appearance. When this process works correctly, the skin is moisturized and remains healthy.

Problems arise when the sebum is trapped in the hair follicle. For reasons that are still unclear, some hair follicles become obstructed. The sebum is produced but gets trapped on the way out. A certain bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes multiplies in this trapped sebum and causes a tiny infection. This leads to inflammatory acne, or red bumps and pustules. In some follicles the bacteria does not cause an infection, but rather changes the lining of the hair follicle and forms plugs called comedones.

Blackheads
Blackheads, also known as open comedones, are follicles that have a wider than normal opening. They are filled with plugs of sebum and sloughed off cells and have undergone a chemical reaction resulting in the oxidation of melanin. This gives the material in the follicle the typical black color.

Whiteheads
Whiteheads, also known as closed comedones, are follicles that are filled with the same material, but have only a microscopic opening to the skin surface. Since the air cannot reach the follicle, the material is not oxidized, and remains white.

Skin Care
The key to skin care for acne is consistency. An overnight cure has not been found. But using good skin care methods aids in the daily, steady improvement of follicle health. Since acne is not caused by eating certain foods, restricting the diet is not helpful. Since it is also not caused by “dirty” skin, excessively scrubbing does not help and can even make the skin more irritated. The best skin care for comedones consists of once-a-day cleansing with a mild soap or facial scrub to aid in the removal of excess sebum and dead skin cells. Oil-based makeup should not be used since these can contribute to the buildup of oil in the follicles. Water-based makeup labeled as non-comedogenic can be used safely.

Treatment

Treatment of whiteheads and blackheads takes time.

Most treatments take several weeks to months before a noticeable change is seen.
Benzoyl peroxide has an antibacterial effect and may also decrease the chemical reaction that changes the lining of the hair follicle. This may help reduce the plugging that causes comedones. Benzoyl peroxide may be used for a mild case of comedones or to help prevent formation of others.
Tretinoin (Retin-A, Avita, Renova) is the mainstay of treatment for whiteheads and blackheads. Tretinoin is a derivative of vitamin A and works by increasing cell turnover and reducing the “stickiness” of the sloughed cells. It causes expulsion of the plugged material and converts closed comedones into open comedones. The material in these newly converted open comedones can be easily extruded. Tretinoin can be irritating, so specific instructions on how to use it can be found here.
Antibiotics have not been shown to help whiteheads or blackheads.
Isotretinoin (Accutane) is used for severe cystic acne and has many side effects. It is very effective for comedones when used properly, but is not usually prescribed for mild acne of either type.
Extraction may be used by a health care provider on open comedones. This process is performed using a device called a comedone extractor. This is a small, metal, circular instrument that is centered on the comedone and pushes down the surrounding skin, causing the plug to extrude.

Whiteheads and blackheads are types of acne that affect many people. There are good treatment options available, so there is no need to “suffer” with this condition in silence. A primary care provider can initiate treatment for acne and follow mild to moderate cases. Severe cases or those resistant to treatment should be seen by a dermatologist.

10 ways to use salt as a health and beauty product

  1. Relax sore muscles by massaging your skin with salt. While your body is still wet in the shower gently rub salt in a circular motion all over your body. This will help relax the muscles and increase your blood circulation.
  2. Wake up in the morning by invigorating your mind, body and skin with salt and lavender essential oil. In a bowl add 1/4 cup of salt and 2 drops of lavender essential oil. Massage this mixture into your skin in a warm/hot shower. Then rinse off.
  3. Relieve dry itchy skin by soaking in a bath tub of saltwater. You can use either table salt or sea salt; add 1 cup of either to a nice hot bath. Soak for 20 - 30 minutes.
  4. Cleanse and tone your face with a mixture of olive oil and salt. In a bowl mix 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of salt. Use mixture to gently massage your face; avoid contact with your eyes. Wash your face as normal and pat dry with soft cloth.
  5. Reduce oily skin by spritzing your face with a spray bottle filled with a mild saltwater solution. Fill bottle with lukewarm water and add 1 teaspoon of salt. Pat dry with a soft cloth. Repeat if necessary.
  6. Get rid of bad breath with a natural mouthwash solution of salt, baking soda and water. In a small glass of water mix 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Use as a mouthwash and rinse. Don’t swallow. ;)
  7. Natural teeth whitener brush teeth with a mixture of equal parts baking soda and salt. Dip a wet toothbrush into a small bowl containing this mixture and brush teeth. Rinse and repeat if needed! :D
  8. Natural toothpaste brush teeth with a paste made of baking soda, crushed salt and water. You can crush the salt with a spoon in a bowl. Add a little wintergreen extract (food safe) for some flavor. Baking soda can be a little bitter. Don’t eat! ;) Of course I guess you could, I mean you won’t get sick. Let's take a look at how to combat your acne.

The main strategy to use is prevention where possible and better skin care. Here are several top issues of focus for each:

Exercise – Keeping in shape can help fight acne by fighting off negative stress levels that can come from negative self-esteem and depression. However, some safeguards need to be in place to ward off acne that can result from your workout routines. First watch which products you use on your body because you'll most likely be sweating. With any sunscreen's for outdoor workout activities and any make-up or other cosmetics, check for "noncomedogenic" and "oil-free" on the labels to help prevent pore clogging. And when your workout is finished, wash the products off as soon as possible, especially if you'll be going into a steam room or sauna where your pores will be opening up more. You don't want these lotions and other cosmetics getting into your pores and clogging them up, resulting in blemishes.

Watch what you put on your body with regards to clothing, sports gear and equipment. For example, tight lycra and nylon exercise outfits might look great in the movies and magazine models, but if you are susceptible to acne problems, avoid these synthetic fabrics that tend to trap in body moisture and heat resulting in a bacteria frenzy. Instead, choose loose clothing made of cotton or natural blends to allow more air to get to your skin. And when you're finished with your workout, get out of clothing wet from perspiration or water sports. Shower and change into dry, clean clothing. And keep your sports gear and equipment clean, too. Dirty headgear, for instance, can irritate forehead areas prone to acne problems. So toss headbands into the washing machine after workout sessions.

Tip: when cleaning your body after a workout, no need to scrub with force and irritate skin. If possible, wash with medicated soap (check for "exfoliant" on the label) or medicated wipes from your athletic bag where showers aren't available.

Tip: When drying with a towel, even if it's during your workout to erase sweat, always blot instead of rub. That way you avoid grinding excess dead skin, dirt, sweat and other chemicals into your pores and risking pore-clogging and skin irritation.

Cosmetics – To avoid pore-clogging and skin irritations similar to acne and can contribute to acne, use products labeled "noncomedogenic" or "oil-free." Shimmering facial colors can contain a flaky mineral called mica that can cause skin irritations and clog pores. Other additives in coloring that can cause similar reactions are coal tar derivatives, carmine and heavy cream in blushes. More preventative measures include using a lip gloss promoting a matte finish instead of a high gloss for less pore-clogging; note the more the shine, the more then comedogenic content and the more the pores can clog.

Beware eye creams can contain heavier concentrations of moisturizers than regular creams and lotions, meaning they have greater potential to clog pores in the surrounding facial areas.
